Dakota Fanning - Hounddog and Parenting

There's been a great deal of controversy surrounding the new Dakota Fanning movie Hounddog.

Hounddog reportedly includes a scene in which a character played by 12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning is raped by a teenage boy. I've seen several interviews with people associated with the movie as well as hearing and reading many of the reviews or disses associated with the controversial film. I'm interested in hearing and reading more points of view on this topic. Being the parent of two teens and two stepchildren that are teens, I'm finding this rather tough to digest. Just this week, my boys came home telling of a girl, 12-years-old, in the 6th grade at their school that suspected she was pregnant. Don't you think kids are being forced to grow up far more quickly these days than were even 10 years ago? Why is it that it takes so much more "shock" to entertain us these days?

I can't help but think that Hollywood is exploiting this 12-year-old just to sell tickets and the future impact it will have on Dakota herself will be catastrophic.
